With the warmer weather comes more and more events to check out in our great city! The outdoor festival circuit is well underway and we’ve picked a few top highlights to attend this May.
Five Points Jazz Festival – May 18
On Saturday, May 18, head to the Five Points neighborhood for the Five Points Jazz Festival. In case you didn’t know already, Five Points was once known as Harlem of the West thanks to the number of jazz clubs, which played host to legends like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. The festival is free and has several stages throughout the neighborhood. View the full schedule HERE. There’s no shortage of music festivals in Denver this summer and the Jazz Festival is a great way to start off festival season (tapping) on the right foot!
Wicked – May 8-June 9
Starting on May 8 the Buell Theatre will host the Tony Award-winning musical, Wicked! The hit Broadway musical based on the book by Winnie Holzman features a background story of the characters from the Wizard of Oz. Whether you’re a musical buff or have missed seeing Wicked live before, now is your chance. There’s also an opportunity for $25 tickets if you arrive at least 2.5 hours before showtime and enter into the day-of lottery!
Denver Arts Festival – May 25-26
The Stapleton neighborhood will host the annual Denver Arts Festival at the end of the month! The two-day event showcases everything from digital art, fiberglass, sculpting, jewelry, metalworks, painting, to woodworking, and more. The festival is a great way to support local as the majority of the artists are from Colorado, while including a select group of national artists as well. Along with the spectacular art pieces, the event will have plenty of live music, drinks, and activities for the kids!
We have only scratched the surface for events you don’t want to miss this month. There are also several free events going on throughout the city, like the Union Station Farmers Market which starts up again on May 11! Which events do you plan to check out in May? Let us know below!
