Design Trends to Watch For in 2020

December 23, 2019 By Rosanne Dutzer Leave a Comment

A brand new decade is approaching quickly, which means resolutions and transformation goals may be held to an even higher standard once January 1st arrives. Since you’ve come across this post, it is most likely that you’re looking to amplify your home in the new year – and are hoping to learn what design trends are lying on the horizon. If this is the case, we’ve got you covered. Listed below are a few predictions of what modest, yet drastic design trends should be on your radar for the upcoming year.

Natural Elements

Recently, the desire to get back in touch with nature and natural elements has been trending. Within the new year, it seems as though this yearning will also extend into home accents. This trend does not have to be dramatic, but rather, a subtle addition to what your home already has to offer. Lush greens, wood grain, jute rugs and accent pillows, natural light, and tinted glass are a few examples of how to incorporate this trend for 2020. Remember, the outside world has texture, texture, and more texture. Think of this as a simple way to bring the natural elements into any interior space.

Modernism & Clean Lines

Thankfully for those who are not into the earthy tones, there is another solution to updating your space next year. 2020 won’t just be about natural elements – brighter and edgier interiors are also going to be popular. Sharp lines and bold colors will dominate the design world as well. Think geometrical shapes such as recurring circles, hexagons or stripes mixed with bold colors or prints. The look of this design usually tends to lean towards modernism, and can be fused with modern and contemporary art pieces to take the space to the next level.

Vintage Accents

Throughout the decades, trends in design, clothing, and art go around and come back around. This is especially true within the interior design world. In 2020, vintage pieces and traditional detailing will be back in style. Things such as spooled legs, spindles, and other accents we saw in the Victorian era may be making their comeback. Incorporating one or two statement pieces will be necessary for hopping on board with this trend. Perhaps a visit to your local antique shop is in order!

Although there are many trends that are presumed to take place next year, there’s no need to get overwhelmed by attempting to incorporate each one into your space. Choosing a few simple elements that speak to who you are may be the ultimate way to elevate your home as we approach not just a new year, but a new decade.
