How to Spend Thanksgiving Weekend in Denver

November 15, 2018 By Rosanne Dutzer Leave a Comment

The holidays are simply the best time of the year. With so many amazing festivities and events going on in and around Denver, it’s impossible to not be in the holiday spirit! Thanksgiving weekend will be filled with great happenings yet again and we’ve put together some of our favorites for a perfect weekend!

Mile High United Way Turkey Trot – November 22nd
Head to Washington Park for the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot to build up your appetite on Thanksgiving day! The four-mile race and quarter-mile family fun run also features live entertainment, music, and a beer garden! The event is expected to host over 10,000 participants in support of Mile High United Way’s work to improve the lives of children, families, and individuals in need. A great time for a great cause!

Grand Illumination – November 23rd
Downtown Denver’s Winter in the City program never fails to impress and Grand Illumination is a great way to kick the holiday season into high gear. We can’t wait to see Downtown Denver light up from Union Station all the way to the City and County Building at Civic Center Park on November 23rd at 6 pm. After the illumination, grab a drink with Santa at the Terminal Bar! You can enjoy the lights all through December and the holiday season.

Denver Christkindl Market – Nov. 16-Dec. 23
You won’t want to miss the Denver Christkindl Market at 1515 Arapahoe St. starting on November 16th! A wonderful German holiday tradition filled with high-quality gifts, such as hand-carved wooden figurines, handmade candles, and ornaments from vendors all over Germany and the world. There will be plenty of live German holiday music and, of course, schnitzel, sausages, and Glühwein (hot spiced wine) to keep you warm!

These are just a few of the many ways to spend a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with the family. If you’re looking for more, we’d suggest skipping the Black Friday crowds and going ice skating at Skyline Park or to Blossoms of Light at the Denver Botanic Gardens! Let us know what your favorite Thanksgiving weekend traditions are and your favorite events to check out below!
