If you are spending your Turkey Day in the Mile High City this year and aren’t sure how you will entertain the family, rest assured that there is a plethora of family-friendly activities to keep you busy. We have put together a list of great events that occur during Thanksgiving week that will be sure to keep you in the holiday spirit.
Mile High United Way Turkey Trot, Denver
One of Denver’s greatest Thanksgiving traditions is without a doubt the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot. This fun Thanksgiving experience brings together more than 20,000 people to Washington Park for a four-mile run/walk and community celebration each year. All of the proceeds from the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot go towards providing education, health, and financial stability for individuals and families in our community. Why not running for a good cause while burning some calories before the big feast? This is one you won’t want to miss!
The Glow Holiday Celebration and Evening Parade, Estes Park
Head over to the beautiful mountain town of Estes Park which is a 90-minute drive from Denver. During Thanksgiving weekend, the town hosts the Catch the Glow Holiday Celebration and Evening Parade. The evening glow parade features parade floats that light up and we just know your kids will have a blast! Plus, throughout the day you can enjoy hayrides, Christmas shopping and even a meet and greet with Santa himself at Bond Park.
If you have never heard of Zoo Lights you might want to add this to your go-to list! The Denver Zoo transforms every year into Colorado’s coolest winter wonderland. With more than a million lights twinkling over 80 acres, it’s the perfect way to make special holiday memories!
Downtown Denver Grand Illumination
Union Station is definitely one of our favorite places to watch the citywide Grand Illumination. This colorful event features an appearance from Santa, food, and drinks at Terminal Bar, classic holiday jingles from carolers and, for the grand finale, the official lighting of Union Station and its 40-foot-tall outdoor tree.
Whatever level of merriment you and your family are looking for this holiday season, Colorado definitely has you covered. Make sure to follow us on Facebook for some ideas to keep you entertained during “the most wonderful time of the year”!
