This time of year always has us daydreaming about relaxing on the patio with a cool beverage in hand. If you’re looking for tips on how to outfit your outdoor space for the summer, look no further. Sure, you could get away with simply arranging some outdoor furnishings and calling it a day. However, the details of an outdoor space, like any room, are always what gives it character and brings it to life.
Light it Up:
String lights are a Pinterest-worthy patio luxury that all-too-often gets neglected at home. It’s time to change that. Hanging string lights across your outdoor space will give you the dreamiest lighting for enchanting outdoor dinners and parties.
Al Fresco Patio Dining:
Many people want an inviting outdoor space so they can expand their entertaining capabilities. Before you go planning your backyard dinner parties, make sure you have an area where you (or your guests) can sit and eat. Whether it’s a simple bistro set or a sturdy picnic table, dinner in the outdoors is always enchanting.
Lush Landscape:
If you have an actual yard, landscaping is a must. If you’re restricted to a balcony or patio, you can easily add green space and a cozy feeling by filling corners with potted plants. Hang vines from a pergola or deck railing to blend your outdoor space with your manicured yard.
While outdoor seating is an obvious must on any patio, consider adding a hammock as well. Not only will it contribute to lounging space for guests, it makes a comfy place for you to relax on warm summer afternoons.
Enchanting Patio Entertaining:
Is your patio normally filled with people during the summer? Keep guests happy by providing a bar… outside! It will make serving drinks a breeze, plus gives you a flat outdoor space to decorate.
One of the easiest events to host in your home is a bonfire. It’s a great way to meet new friends and spend time with old ones. Plus, the warmth helps extend your patio season from spring through fall! Some things to consider: Since we live in a dry climate here in Colorado, open burning can be restricted through a good portion of the season. Consider installing a gas or propane-fed firepit for the most fire-safe bonfire facilities.
For warmer evenings when a fire would bring too much extra heat, it doesn’t hurt to have a second source of entertainment. Consider putting up a ping pong table or cornhole game boards on your deck. If you don’t have that type of setup in your outdoor space, invest in a croquet set or a volleyball net that can be placed in the yard.
